Partners Trainings are an integral component of empowering communities to successfully negotiate times of stress.

Training for Individuals (Resident/Employee)



Earthquake Mitigation– 1 hr. Produced by: Community Youth Center (CYC)

Most earthquake damage is predictable and preventable. Learn how to secure your home and take precautions for potential hazards to protect you and your loved ones.



Fire Safety– 1 hr. Produced by CYC

Learn to prepare for and prevent a home fire, and steps to take immediately after a home fire. Class includes home safety checklists, family disaster planning and fire extinguisher use and smoke alarm installation education.



Personal Preparedness Training– 30 min- 1 hr. Produced by: CYC

Tailored classes are available to meet specific needs of workplace groups, youth, seniors, people with disabilities, underserved populations, non-English speakers, etc. Class covers three steps to personal preparedness.



Basic First Aid & Hands-Only CPR Training– 1.5 hrs. Produced by: CYC

Teach untrained bystanders how to perform hands-only CPR, control external bleeding and manage shock in an emergency.



Response and Recovery– 1 hr. Produced by: CYC

Quick response and recovery during and after a disaster can allow the community to rebound quicker. Learn basic techniques and build resources for the recovery stage.



Seismic Retrofit & Earthquake Insurance– 2 hrs. Produced by: CYC

Intended for business and property owners in Chinatown. California Earthquake Authority explains how affordable insurance can help property and business owners repair, rebuild, and replace their property damaged by an earthquake



Certified Adult and Infant First Aid Training– 3 hours. $90 per person; Produced by: CYC

Red Cross certified staff teach the skills and information needed to provide immediate care to an injured adult or infant until medical professionals arrive. The training is available to the general public and earns a two year certification.



Certified CPR Training– 1.5 hrs. $35 per person; Produced by: CYC

Red Cross certified staff teach this Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) training. Learn CPR basics and other life-saving techniques during times of disaster. The training is available to the general public and earns a two year certification.



Certified AED Training– 2 hrs. $55 per person; Produced by: CYC

Red Cross certified staff teach this Automated External Defibrillator (AED) Training. The course allow you to learn how – and when – to use an (AED). The training is available to the general public and earns a two year certification.


“Red Cross Ready” Personal Preparedness Training– 2 hrs. Produced by: Red Cross

This class is offered to the general public to learn how to create a kit, make a plan and stay informed during times of disaster. Follow these simple steps in advance to ensure you can weather a crisis safely and comfortably.



Psychological First Aid– 3 hrs. Produced by Red Cross and the Department of Public Health

The Training promotes the mental health and psychosocial well-being of survivors. Psychological first aid aims to reduce initial distress, meet current needs, promote flexible coping and encourage adjustment.



NERT Training– 6 classes at 3 hrs. each. Produced by: San Francisco Fire Department

Learn the basics of personal preparedness and prevention.  The training also includes hands-on disaster skills that will help individuals respond to personal and neighborhood emergencies.



ALERT Training– 2 classes at 8 hrs. each. Produced by the San Francisco Police Department

The training is designed for volunteers 16 years or older, who live, work, or attend high school in San Francisco. The goal of the program is to locate, train, and then coordinate volunteers to safely perform essential tasks after a major disaster.



Heatwave Training2 hrs. Produced by SF CARD

Heat events, prolonged periods of excessive heat, cause more deaths than any other natural disaster. Learn how to recognize the signs of heat exhaustion and heat stroke and ways to mitigate the impacts on your health.



Psychological First Aid Online Training– 6 hrs. Produced by National Child Traumatic Stress Network

PFA online includes a 6-hour interactive course that puts the participant in the role of a provider in a post-disaster scene. This professionally-narrated course is for individuals new to disaster response who want to learn the core goals of PFA.



Introduction to Incident Command System- Online IS 100 – 3 hrs. Produced by FEMA

This training introduces the Incident Command System (ICS) and provides the foundation for higher level ICS training. This course describes the history, features and principles, and organizational structure of the Incident Command System.



National Incident Management System (NIMS) An Introduction- Online IS 700– 3 hrs. Produced by FEMA

This course introduces the National Incident Management System (NIMS) which provides a template to enable all government, private-sector, and nongovernmental organizations to work together during domestic incidents.


Neighborhood Empowerment Network is a cross sector cohort of city-wide resident leaders, community & faith based organizations, city agencies, private sector stakeholders, academic and philanthropic institutions that align their expertise, programs, technical and financial resources to advance the development of tools, resources and methods that empower communities to strengthen their capacity to advance their resilience goals.
